Anchor the day
Start with two steady points: a generally consistent wake time and bedtime. Regularity helps make room for rest even when school, work and family responsibilities shift.
When possible, step outdoors during daylight and add gentle movement such as walking, stretching or yoga. The goal is a repeatable rhythm, not an intense routine.
Create a softer landing
- Dim lights and reduce stimulating screens before bed.
- Keep the sleeping space quiet, relaxing and comfortably cool.
- Move caffeine earlier in the day if it interferes with sleep.
- Use a short closing ritual: prepare tomorrow's water, write three lines in a journal and take several slow breaths.
- Track patterns for a week if sleep feels inconsistent; the pattern may be more useful than one difficult night.
Notice when support is needed
Persistent trouble falling asleep, repeated waking, loud snoring, pauses in breathing or daytime sleepiness may need professional evaluation. Seasonal sadness that becomes intense, lasts for weeks or affects safety also deserves prompt support.
